Oklahoma State football: Cowboys hire Bob Connelly as new offensive line coach

STILLWATER — Last season, Bob Connelly was coaching high school football in Arizona.

Earlier this week, he accepted the offensive line coaching job at Georgia Southern.

Turns out he’ll actually be coaching the Oklahoma State offensive line in 2014, as the school announced Connelly’s hiring Friday.

“Bob is a great addition to our staff,” coach Mike Gundy said in a release. “He brings maturity and experience working with the offensive line. He is very familiar with the state of Texas. He has an extensive background in the no-huddle style of offense.”

Connelly replaces Joe Wickline, who left Stillwater following nine seasons at the school to become the offensive coordinator/offensive line coach at Texas. The announcement of Connelly’s hiring comes less than a day after Oregon State offensive line coach Mike Cavanaugh — who earlier this week was offered the job on the Cowboys’ staff, according to Pete Roussel of CoachingSearch.com — announced he was staying in Corvallis.
