Oklahoma State sophomore defensive tackle James Castleman made a late-August run up the depth chart, earning his first career start against Savannah State. Now word is leaking out that Castleman isn't just a big body up front, but quite the athlete, with a school basketball scoring record to show for it back at Amarillo High (Texas).
First career start, it was a life-changing experience. It's not something you get all the time. I loved it. It was awesome.
I played a little bit last year, but getting to start just isn't the same.
We're hoping (Arizona quarterback Matt Scott) runs a lot, just runs into us d-linemen and d-tackles. We're going to try to take care of that. We've been watching film of him and he's a very shifty quarterback. We're looking forward to seeing what he can do.
I wouldn't say I'm a pretty good athlete, I'll let everybody else say it, because I don't like talking about myself like that. But I've had people tell me I'm pretty good at basketball, stuff like that.
(I was our high school's) all-time leading scorer and I broke our rebound record, too.
I usually just used my body and got them out of the way.
Senior year, I averaged at least 14 points a game; boards about 12. I usually threw a lot of elbows.
I played a little baseball in high school, so I try to show off a little bit, mess with our quarterbacks.
I threw the shot put; I actually went to state in the shot put. That was pretty cool.
