Oklahoma State football: Is scout team quarterback a secret weapon?

Daxx Garman can do more than that this week.

This time last year, Garman was on the Arizona roster, backing up former QB Nick Foles and current starter Matt Scott. Garman transferred to OSU this past spring and will redshirt the 2012 season as he sits out to satisfy NCAA transfer rules.

OSU linebackers coach Glenn Spencer, who again is filling in at defensive coordinator in Bill Young's absence this week, said he's already had a couple meetings with Garman to get some insight.

Since Arizona has a new coaching staff, led by Rich Rodriguez, Garman can't discuss the Wildcats' offensive scheme. But he can assess the UA personnel, most notably the dual-threat Scott.

“He can talk about their athleticism and their personalities a little bit,” Spencer said.

“Schematically, it's so much different, so you really can't go in there and talk scheme with him.

“But, yeah, I've bounced some things off him. And he's shared some insight on some players and what he thought about them athletically and their personalities and if they're tough guys or not, so that was pretty interesting.”

OSU TO DEDICATE WALL IN FOOTBALL FACILITIES TO WALK-ONS 

Because of the no-fewer-than 19 non-scholarship players that got in the game for the Cowboys against Savannah State, walk-ons continued to be a popular topic during Monday's media luncheon.

OSU has had some fantastic recent success with players that originally started as walk-ons, including quarterback Brandon Weeden, kicker Dan Bailey, fullback Bryant Ward and receiver Colton Chelf.
