Oklahoma State football: Mike Gundy accepts penalty, blame for APR failings Published: May 16, 2014

Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy is unhappy about losing practice time as a result of the Cowboys narrowly falling below the NCAA's Academic Progress Rate threshold

In an interview with on Friday, Gundy expressed accountability for the program falling short. The Cowboys were .09 short of the required 930 four-year average APR needed to avoid punishment.

As a result, the Cowboys will lose two practice hours per week.

"I've accepted it," Gundy said. "I'm in charge. It's not the AD's fault. It's not the president's fault. It's not anyone's fault but mine. I'll deal with it. It's not going to affect our team. It's not going to affect our players. Is it a disadvantage? Sure it is. But we'll be OK."

Gundy downplayed the loss of practice hours, saying that the Cowboys have actually cut back on practice time in recent seasons. He estimated that his team was using about 19 of the 20 allotted hours.

Gundy said that he was appreciative of the NCAA's reduced penalty. OSU was initially supposed to lose four practice hours a week, but the punishment was cut in half by the NCAA after the school appealed due to how close the score was to being in the acceptable range.
