Oklahoma State football notebook: Baylor game officially a sellout

A top-10, prime-time showdown has drawn the first sellout in Boone Pickens Stadium history.

Oklahoma State announced Tuesday that the No. 10 Cowboys' showdown against fourth-ranked Baylor on Saturday night is officially sold out.

The single-game attendance record has already been broken twice this season in games against Lamar (59,061) and TCU (59,538).

And the crowd hasn't been bolstered by an influx of Baylor fans. An OSU source told The Oklahoman that Baylor did not request its full allotment of 3,800 tickets and then only sold about 700.

Baylor's explosive offense — which averages more than 61 points and nearly 685 yards per game — garners the bulk of the outside attention.

But OSU coach Mike Gundy called the Baylor defense the Cowboys' “biggest concern” heading into Saturday's game.

“I see more athleticism on their defense,” Gundy said. “Their schemes are very similar to what they've done there in the past. (Coordinator) Phil Bennett has been there for quite a while.

“I think they've improved and recruited players that get to the ball fast, but that's just an outside guy looking in.”

Baylor leads the Big 12 in total defense (336 yards per game) and ranks second in the league in scoring defense (22.3 points per game).

The unit is headlined by linebackers Bryce Hager (71 tackles, nine quarterback hurries) and Eddie Lackey (66 tackles, three sacks, five quarterback hurries), safety Ahmad Dixon (58 tackles, five pass breakups, one interception, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery), cornerback Demetri Goodson (Big 12-best 11 passes defended), and end Jamal Palmer (four sacks, four forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, six quarterback hurries).
