Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy won three national Coach of the Year awards last season after guiding the Cowboys to their first Big 12 championship and a 12-1 record.
But with the Cowboys standing at 7-3, despite a revolving door at quarterback and injuries at several key positions during the season, is it possible Gundy has done a better job in 2012?
Gundy did acknowledge that his staff has had to do more coaching this season, because of those factors.
“On offense (last season), you have (Brandon) Weeden and (Justin) Blackmon,” Gundy said, “so you run your base (package) and you're good at it. You're going to say that your guys are first-round picks and they're better than the other guys, so we're going to play fast and we want our good players to make plays and have success.
“We've had to scramble on special teams this year with the injuries to the skill players, and obviously offensively. And I think defensively we've had really good game plans. There's been more coaching that's gone on this year than a number of years here.”
