Oklahoma State football notebook: Cowboys hand Mack Brown his biggest home loss

Maybe much to the chagrin of everybody on the offensive side of the ball, Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy was satisfied to trade punts in the second half.

The theory being, that if Texas was going to run three plays and punt, Oklahoma State would do the same.

“If they want to run it and punt then I was willing to run it and punt,” Gundy said.

After all, the Cowboys had a 25-point lead. And, quite frankly, had already embarrassed Texas quite enough.

In fact, the Cowboys' 38-13 win was the largest defeat ever in Darrell K. Royal Texas Stadium in Mack Brown's 16 years. Not such a good omen for an embattled coach who has had four seasons of pratfalls against high-caliber opponents.

And, by winning at Texas as well as six straight Big 12 games, Oklahoma State has certainly turned itself into a high-caliber opponent.

“They won about every way you can win,” Brown said.

“We understand how big the game is,” Gundy said. “Very seldom do you go on the road and win by more than three touchdowns to a team that's undefeated in conference play in the middle of November.”

Glidden, who has shown reliable hands and solid sense in the past, misjudged two balls for the Cowboys. And while neither muff ultimately cost OSU there were a few tense seconds.
