Oklahoma State football notebook: Glenn Spencer found needed 'juice' in Joe Bob Clements

As OSU's new defensive coordinator last winter, Glenn Spencer went looking for a certain style of assistant coach to handle the Cowboys defensive front.

And a coach to handle some of the emotional motivating.

That led Spencer to Joe Bob Clements.

“When were looking at guys, I had it in my mind that I needed somebody with some juice,” Spencer said. “He's got some juice — demanding, has energy, a good technician, vocal, has some intensity out there.

“It takes a lot off me, having to not be that guy all the time.”

Cowboys receiver Charlie Moore on the mindset before OSU's clutch fourth-quarter touchdown drive against Kansas State, after so much offensive struggle.

“On the sideline, we were all encouraging each other. We knew we'd have a chance to win the game. We don't look at the past, we play the next play. That was a prime example of playing the next play.”

OPPONENT WATCH: TCU's PATTERSON REMAINS OPTIMISTIC

The news hasn't been good for TCU so far this season, after entering 2013 as an apparent Big 12 title contender.
