Late in Saturday's game, OSU cornerback Justin Gilbert got tangled up in a confrontation with a West Virginia player and was flagged for a flagrant personal foul, resulting in an ejection.
Gilbert threw punches during the altercation.
“I just saw the back end of it,” said Cowboys coach Mike Gundy. “It doesn't make any difference to me who started it, that's not the way we operate. I saw him throwing punches, their guy out of the corner of my eye … then at the end Gilbert did it. That disappoints me. And I told him that, because we don't operate that way. He's getting frustrated. We have to be bigger and more mature than that.
“I certainly won't have that. We won't as a football team. And he knows that. We have to be better than that.”
According to the NCAA rule book, Big 12 Conference officials will review the play to determine if any additional sanctions are in order regarding Gilbert for OSU's next game against Kansas State.
STEWART KNOCKED OUT OF GAME
Cowboys receiver Josh Stewart was injured late and forced to leave the field.
He was escorted to the locker room before the game ended, appearing woozy as he walked to the locker room. There was no update on his condition.
Freshman receiver Jhajuan Seales took a knee to the helmet and also had to be helped off the field.
Receiver Austin Hays (undisclosed) did not play. Starting offensive tackle Daniel Koenig (foot) returned after missing two games, but was noticeably limping at times.
TRICKETT PROVES TRICKY FOR OSU
West Virginia made a late-week switch at quarterback, turning to Trickett, a Florida State transfer, after starter Ford Childress was ruled out with a torn pectoral muscle.
Trickett was solid in his first extensive duty, completing 24-of-50 passes for 309 yards and a touchdown. When pressured, he moved around in the pocket, buying time for himself and receivers. And after getting knocked out of the game with a shoulder injury in the second half, he later returned, showing some toughness.
“Clint did a great job of keeping plays alive, and we had a sense he could do that,” said WVU coach Dana Holgorsen. “Just watching the film from when he was at Florida State, you could see he has that ability.”
