Oklahoma State football notebook: Mike Gundy reflects on 2011 Iowa State game

Mike Gundy still remembers the feeling walking off the field at Jack Trice Stadium last November in Ames, Iowa, his Cowboys' unbeaten season over. Iowa State had just beaten OSU 37-31 in double overtime.

“It's sad when guys like and are hurt,” said Cowboys receiver Charlie Moore. “They're great leaders and they help us out a lot, but it's going to be fun to watch the younger guys step up.

“As long as they're out, I'm going to do all I can to help this team and make plays when my name gets called.”

the run game

ISU's upset of the Cowboys a year ago was aided by a defensive effort that slowed OSU's running game.

The Cowboys totaled just 60 yards rushing, averaging 3.3 yards per carry.

This year, teams are averaging just 3.4 yards per rush against the Cyclones.

pleads guilty

Oklahoma State backup safety Isaac Maselera pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor count of drug paraphernalia possession Monday and received a six-month deferred sentence.

Maselera received community service and had to pay a $250 fine, plus other costs and fees.

Maselera, who has made his biggest impact at OSU on special teams, was charged in June after OSU police, while responding to a suspicious odor complaint, found a metal grinder in Maselera's dorm room.

So far this season, Maselera has played in four games and tallied three tackles and a pass breakup.

OSU defensive tackle Calvin Barnett also appeared in court Monday for driving charges, and his case will continue on Nov. 19 at 10:30 a.m.

Barnett, who has started all five games for the Cowboys so far this season, was charged in May with driving under suspension, speeding, failing to register a vehicle within 30 days of purchase and driving without insurance.
