Oklahoma State football notebook: Nine freshman Cowboys have played

That means the other 10 true freshman members of the Cowboys' 2012 signing class are likely on track to redshirt, barring injuries or other unforeseen circumstances.

OSU signed 24 players in February, including three junior college transfers — defensive tackle Calvin Barnett, inside receiver Blake Jackson and offensive lineman Chris Grisbhy. Receiver Jesse Vester ended up at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M after he did not qualify at OSU, and offensive lineman Greg Brantley left the team during the preseason for personal reasons.

The freshmen breakdown:

*Played in all four games: Peterson and Lampkin.

*Played in three games: Lunt, Webb, Clark, Muncrief.

*Played in two games: Sheperd, Curry.

*Played in one game: Hays.

*Have yet to play: DE Eric Davis, DE Victor Irokansi, LB Seth Jacobs, OL Paul Lewis, DE Emmanuel Ogbah, FB Dominic Ramacher, WR Jhajuan Seales, LB Jeremiah Tshimanga (season-ending knee injury), OL Zach Veatch and OL Michael Wilson.

GUNDY WANTS RANDLE'S EYES OF TEXAS REGULARLY

Cowboys running back Joseph Randle ran for a career-best 199 yards against Texas and admitted afterward to being on edge for the matchup.

OSU coach Mike Gundy said now he's looking for that same edge on a weekly basis.

“Joseph played with some fire and had that look in his eye,” Gundy said. “We actually had a conversation with him … that's the way he has to play every game. It's Texas and it's national TV and everybody's watching you, but the good players, the one's who really want to make a difference, they have to do it against every team we play each week. You've got to find a way to motivate yourself.
