Projecting the 2014 college football season for the Oklahoma State Cowboys:

MVP: Ryan Simmons. Outside of this middle man, the Cowboys are decimated at linebacker,

Best player: Kevin Peterson. In the Big 12, a solid cornerback is worth his weight in gold.

Most overlooked: James Castleman. The strong defensive tackle has helped turn the D-line from a position of weakness into a position of strength.

Best newcomer: Tyreek Hill. The Cowboys will move the speedster all around, trying to find him open space.

Biggest game: at Kansas State on Nov. 1. Of OSU’s four big games against Boone Pickens Stadium, this is the most winnable.

Best win: Texas in Stillwater on Nov. 15. Beat the ‘Horns, and it’s four wins in five years vs. UT.

Trap game: Oct. 18 at TCU. The Cowboys’ only road game against a mid-level Big 12 team. OSU’s road games are against the elite (OU, Baylor, K-State) or the dregs (Kansas).

Record: 8-5.

Post season projection: Texas Bowl vs. Texas A&M.
