Oklahoma State football recruiting notebook: What's the backup plan if Luke Del Rio goes elsewhere?

Oklahoma State quarterback commit Luke Del Rio says he's still solid with the Cowboys, but is also taking visits, including a recent trip to Oregon State.

Quarterback Luke Del Rio, who has committed to OSU, says he's still solid with the Cowboys but is also taking visits, including a recent trip to Oregon State.

Colorado State is the only other listed offer for Del Rio, according to, but the quarterback certainly appears to be on the market.

Should he decide to go elsewhere, what would the Cowboys' plans be for QB in the 2013 class?

They have not currently offered scholarships to any uncommitted quarterbacks in the class, and had appeared to turn significant attention to the 2014 prospects at the position, like local prospects Justice Hansen of Edmond Santa Fe and David Cornwell of Jones.

As for the senior class, Elbert Speed of North Crowley in Fort Worth, Texas, is a name that has popped up recently, but otherwise, the Pokes have kept their quarterback backup plan quiet.

And Mike White, 6-foot-5, 195 pounds, out of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., is an under-the-radar prospect the Pokes have had their eye on. He came for an official visit in early October, along with teammate Jordan Cunningham, a highly regarded receiver prospect with an offer from OSU.


With the addition of their 13th verbal commitment from a Texas high school player this week, it's quite clear where the Oklahoma State coaching staff is focusing its recruiting efforts.
