Scouting Lamar

Record: 1-1, throttled Division II's Oklahoma Panhandle State 75-0 in Week 1 and lost 27-14 at Louisiana Tech on Saturday.

Best player: Former OSU receiver Kevin Johnson, who has become an all-purpose threat since transferring to Lamar after the 2011 season. Through two games, he has totaled 74 receiving yards, 162 kick return yards, 10 punt return yards and two touchdowns.

Why Lamar could beat OSU: The Cardinals spread the ball out to the perimeter on offense, which was difficult for OSU to defend at times against Texas-San Antonio.

Why Lamar will lose to OSU: This is, by far, the toughest opponent Lamar has faced since it revived its football program in 2010. Beating the Big 12 favorites in their home opener will be a difficult task, to say the least.
