Oklahoma State football: Top receiver recruit Laquon Treadwell chooses Ole Miss over OSU

Laquon Treadwell, a five-star prospect from Crete-Monee (Ill.) High School, announced his commitment to Mississippi Thursday evening, all but ending the Cowboys' hopes of picking up the elite pass-catcher.

“I chose Ole Miss because I wanted to be a part of something special,” Treadwell said. “The program is on the rise with the new coaching staff. Coach Freeze is doing a great job of developing young men. I believe in his vision, and his leadership can be seen in his assistant coaches, such as Coach McGriff, and my position coach, Coach Heard.

“Coach Freeze stresses love and is a very positive man. I believe in Coach Freeze. He is changing the culture, and I want to be a part of returning Rebel Nation to glory.”

Even without Treadwell, OSU's class of receivers is loaded. Commits Fred Ross, Marcell Ateman and Ra'Shaad Samples are all four-star prospects. Four-star “athlete” commit Jerel Morrow could also play wide receiver but will probably be needed more at defensive back.

OU currently has four receiver commits in its 2013 class in Austin Bennett, Dannon Cavil, Jordan Smallwood and KJ Young.
