Oklahoma State landed a sleeper recruit Thursday when linebacker D’Nerius Antoine of Trinity Valley Community College in Athens, Texas committed to the Cowboys.
Antoine, who is not rated by Rivals or Scout, told Rivals that Cowboy defensive coordinator/linebackers coach Glenn Spencer visited Wednesday and called with a scholarship offer Thursday. Antoine accepted on the spot.
“My effort to get to the ball and tackling and (that) I can cover,” Antoine said of what Spencer liked about him. “I do most of the one-on-one coverages when we go man (coverage).”
Antoine, who also had offers from South Alabama, Southern Miss and Troy, is the Cowboys’ 25th commitment of the 2014 class and fifth linebacker, joining Broken Arrow’s Gyasi Akem, Pearland (Texas) Pearland’s Justin Phillips, Spring (Texas) Klein Oak’s Josh Mabin and Iowa Falls (Iowa) Ellsworth Community College’s Devante Averette.
Antoine told Rivals and Scout he projects as a “STAR” linebacker, the outside spot currently occupied by Shaun Lewis.
