Marcus Smart has already announced his plans to leave for the NBA after next season. And Travis Ford’s staff has already taken steps to replace that expected hole in the backcourt.
On Saturday afternoon, news leaked from the New England area that Massachussetts four-star shooting guard Jared Terrell had committed to the Cowboys.
Terrell is a bulky 6-foot-3, 225-pounder with a college-ready physique and skills to match. He is ranked as the 63rd best prospect of the entire 2014 class by Rivals and 76th by ESPN.
“Terrell is a power guard with good athleticism and a strong body,” one ESPN analyst writes in his scouting report. “He is as aggressive as he is powerful, getting after people on the defensive end and going hard to the rim offensively.”
Terrell had offers from plenty of big name schools, including Kansas, Connecticut and Virginia Tech, but picked OSU over Rhode Island, a program many considered to be the favorite to land Terrell because of its proximity to his home town of Weymouth, Mass.
“He liked the opportunity,” AAU coach Ty Boswell recently told NBC Sports. “Obviously, Marcus Smart is leaving, and he’ll have big shoes to fill. He liked the fact he could come in and play right away.”
Terrell is the lone commit for OSU’s 2014 class. Here’s a bit of video from his announcement:
