Oklahoma State’s Justin Gilbert was named the co-Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Week Monday following his 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown to open the Cowboys’ 42-6 victory over Kansas.

Gilbert’s return was the sixth for a score of his career, setting a Big 12 record and making him the NCAA’s active leader in that category. He’s one touchdown away from the NCAA record, which is held by Clemson’s C.J. Spiller (2006-09) and Houston’s Tyron Carrier (2008-11).

Gilbert, who shared the honor with Texas kicker Anthony Fera, gives OSU eight different players who have been honored with a Big 12 weekly award this season. That ties a conference record with Colorado in 2001 and OSU in 2010.

Here’s the list of Cowboys to take a Big 12 weekly individual award so far this season:
Caleb Lavey, linebacker (Mississippi State)
J.W. Walsh, quarterback (Texas-San Antonio)
Josh Stewart, punt returner (Lamar and TCU)
Shaun Lewis, linebacker (Kansas State)
Ben Grogan, kicker (Kansas State)
Desmond Roland, running back (Iowa State)
Clint Chelf, quarterback (Texas Tech)
Justin Gilbert, kick returner (Kansas)
