Man charged in rape of girl

A man accused of repeatedly raping a 10-year-old girl was charged Thursday in Oklahoma County District Court with 10 counts of sexual abuse of a child, records show. Juan Carlos Hernandez, 29, was arrested July 3 after the victim's aunt reported the abuse. The woman said her niece was “lashing out at other children and becoming more hostile,” an Oklahoma City police report said. Hernandez is accused of raping the girl during three years, beginning when she was 7, police reported. He is being held in Oklahoma County jail with bail set at $150,000, a jail official said.

Inmate attack draws a year

A Muskogee County jail inmate received a one-year prison sentence for conspiring with a jailer to assault another inmate in October. Phillip Oliver, 46, will be supervised for one year after his release. Oliver pleaded guilty in January to conspiring with a jailer who assured Oliver that he would cover for him during the assault. The jailer opened the unnamed victim's cell door remotely so that Oliver could gain access. “Oliver then punched the victim in the face, all at a time when the victim was not posing a threat to anyone,” according to a release from the U.S. Department of Justice.
