Oklahoma State freshman quarterback Wes Lunt left the Cowboys game against Louisiana-Lafayette Saturday early in the first quarter with an apparent knee injury.
The injury occurred as Lunt dropped back to pass and was pressured by a ULL defender. After Lunt threw the ball away, the defender grabbed Lunt by his left leg and took him to the ground.
After the injury, Lunt sat on the Cowboys sideline with his knee heavily wrapped before heading to the locker room on crutches. According to radio and TV reports, Lunt was not expected to return to the game.
Redshirt freshman J.W. Walsh took over for Lunt.
FOX Sports reported during the game broadcast that Lunt had sustained a dislocated kneecap, an injury that typically takes 2-4 weeks to heal. But a source close to the program told The Oklahoman that the injury is not a dislocated kneecap, though it is also not believed to be season-ending.
When Gundy addressed the media following the game, the coach said Lunt had not been fully examined or diagnosed yet and that the quarterback's status would not be released until the Friday before the Texas game on Sept. 29.
