Oklahoma State RB Jeremy Smith on Doak Walker Award watch list

Oklahoma State’s Jeremy Smith has been named to the watch list for the Doak Walker Award, which is given annually to college football’s best running back.

Smith, a senior, is projected to be the Cowboys’ starter for the first time in his career in 2013. He spent the last two seasons as a power back to complement Joseph Randle, compiling 1,017 yards and 17 touchdowns during that span. He’s averaged 6.2 yards per carry throughout his career, which ranks second in school history behind Barry Sanders among backs that have at least 100 rushing attempts.

Paul Hornung Award (most versatile player): Justin Gilbert
Chuck Bednarik Award (best defensive player): Calvin Barnett
Bronco Nagurski Award (best defensive player): Calvin Barnett, Justin Gilbert, Shaun Lewis
Outland Trophy (best interior lineman): Calvin Barnett
Rotary Lombardi Award (best offensive or defensive lineman): Calvin Barnett
Biletnikoff Award (best wide receiver): Josh Stewart, Tracy Moore
Doak Walker Award (best running back): Jeremy Smith
