OSU Q&A — Markelle Martin's nine tackles and forced fumble keyed OSU's defensive effort in an opening night win. An emergency starter in the secondary did pretty well too, Martin said.

STILLWATER — Senior safety Markelle Martin led the Cowboys with nine tackles and forced a fumble in the team's 61-34 win over Louisiana-Lafayette.

How did you feel like the defense performed tonight?

“I think defensively as a whole we played pretty good. Of course we wanted to keep a shutout — we gave up some late touchdowns in the end — but overall I think we played really well for the first game.”

How do you think Daytawion Lowe played in Johnny Thomas' place?

“He did good. We communicated a bunch; he had my back if I messed up, and overall I think he stepped up to the plate. It was just like it was Johnny Thomas out there.”

From behind, how did the new guys up front look?

“I think they were shell-shocked at first, but after the veteran guys started moving around and making plays, everyone got comfortable. Chris Littlehead made some plays and got some pressure; Anthony Rogers made some plays, so I was proud of those guys.”
