State Sen. Tom Ivester, D-Sayre, announced Thursday that he will not seek re-election.

“My wife and I have decided that it is time to pass the torch off to someone else to serve the people of Senate District 26,” said Ivester, who serves as Senate Democratic Caucus chairman. “Personally, I want to spend more time with my family. It is difficult to be away from home four months each year during the legislative session. More importantly, my wife and I feel that God is calling us in a different direction at this time in our lives.”

Ivester, a Sayre attorney, has served in the state Senate since 2006.
