OKMULGEE — A museum curator from Utah State University will head up a new Oklahoma State University gallery, OSU officials announced Friday.
The Board of Regents for Oklahoma State University and the A&M Colleges on Friday approved university officials' bid to hire Victoria Rowe Berry as the director of the OSU Museum of Art.
The museum is scheduled to open later this year in the Postal Plaza building in downtown Stillwater.
Berry comes to OSU from the Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art at Utah State University in Logan, Utah, where she served as executive director and chief curator until July.
OSU is renovating the historic building for use as a gallery to house the university's art collection.
Crews are about a third of the way through with construction and hope to be able to open the building in late September.
OSU officials brought the proposal to buy and renovate the building to the OSU/A&M Board of Regents in June 2010.
At the time, officials told the board the university lacked a good place for storing and displaying its permanent art collection. Much of that collection has been in storage for years.
