Oklahoma teacher honored with White House award two weeks after her death

BOKOSHE -— Bokoshe teacher Patricia "Diane" Reece won many accolades for her teaching, but she didn't live to know she got the granddaddy of them all — the 2014 Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching.

She and fellow teacher Carol Huett of Moore were announced as the two Oklahoma recipients of the prestigious award in a White House announcement Dec. 20.

"This is obviously bittersweet," said Reece's daughter Kris Williams, also a teacher at Bokoshe Public School. "We were very excited for her because she was anticipating the news. She even asked about it when she was in the hospital."
