Oklahoma, Texas authorities arrest man in Beckham County cold case

OSBI agents and Texas Rangers arrested Gordon Myson Splinter, 35, on a murder complaint Wednesday in Amarillo, Texas. Splinter is accused of fatally shooting Michael Smith, 35, of Erick, in 2008.

— A Texas man has been arrested in the 2008 killing of a Beckham County man.

Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation agents and Texas Rangers arrested Gordon Myson Splinter, 35, on a murder complaint Wednesday at his Amarillo home, the OSBI reports.

Splinter is accused of fatally shooting Michael Smith, 35, of Erick, in the chest April 29, 2008, outside of Smith's home.

Multiple witnesses said they saw Splinter running from the area where Smith was shot. Smith was taken to Sayre Memorial Hospital, where he died.

Splinter was booked into the Randall County jail in Texas and will be extradited to Beckham County to face a murder charge, the OSBI reports.
