Oklahoma ties: Snow spent summers as youth in Lawton, spoke in OKC twice in recent months

Former White House press secretary Tony Snow visited Oklahoma twice in the last eight months of his life, delivering speeches in Oklahoma City in April and in November.
Snow, a conservative writer and commentator, also spent a couple of summers of his youth in Lawton when his father was stationed at Fort Sill.
The former Fox News radio and television host died this morning of colon cancer at 53.
On April 17, Snow delivered a speech at the Cox Convention Center, focusing on faith, politics and living with cancer. He opined on the candidacies of Sen. Hillary Clinton and Sen. Barack Obama, still locked then in a tight battle for the Democratic presidential nomination Obama would later claim, and Republican nominee Sen. John McCain.
Snow said Clinton comes across as cold on television and has credibility and trustworthiness issues. He said Obama flip-flops on important issues and falters when answering substantive questions. Snow also said McCain has a "Yosemite Sam kind of anger" and that his nomination was the Republican Party telling baby boomers to "shut up and go away."
On November 29, Snow spoke to about 1,300 people at Oklahoma Christian University on the importance of faith and the uniqueness of American society.
Beofre the speech, Snow defended President Bush in an interview with The Oklahoman, saying Bush is smarter than he is portrayed in the media and that he exemplified leadership and character in what he has done in Iraq.
"(Bush) is much more determined to try to do the right things the right way for the right reason than to sit around and try to make comedians or critics happy," Snow said.
