McALESTER — The state of Oklahoma is set to execute a man convicted in the 1988 stabbing death of an Oklahoma City woman.

Kenneth Eugene Hogan is to be put to death Thursday at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary in McAlester for the stabbing death of Lisa Stanley in her apartment.

The 52-year-old Hogan admitted stabbing Stanley but says he did so in self-defense after Stanley lunged at him with a knife. Stanley was stabbed more than 25 times. The state Pardon and Parole Board voted 4-1 earlier this month to deny Hogan's request for clemency.

Hogan's first conviction was overturned in 1999 by a federal court that said the jury should've been allowed to consider a verdict of manslaughter.

Hogan was re-tried in 2003 and was again convicted and sentenced to death.
