A toddler drowned in a swimming pool Tuesday night, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

Lakelyn Thornell, 1, of Muldrow, was pronounced dead about 11 p.m. Tuesday at a Fort Smith, Ark., hospital, the patrol reported.

The girl was swimming with other children in an above-ground pool about 8 p.m. at a Sequoyah County home west of Muldrow. None of the adults realized she had gotten back into the pool until she was discovered floating face down in the water, according to a patrol report.

The girl's flotation device had been removed and it is not known how long she was in the water before she was discovered, troopers said.
