A prominent Oklahoma City church has committed $1.2 million toward tornado relief efforts in an effort to show the congregation's love and support for the community.

The Rev. Marty Grubbs, senior pastor of Crossings Community Church, 14600 N Portland, said an anonymous donor presented the church with a significant donation for tornado relief and the church added 20 percent of the amount of the donation to the overall fund. He said the money will be available to help with funeral arrangements and other needs that tornado victims may have.

Grubbs said church leaders and members began responding to the tornado crisis by connecting with a church in Moore, Fresh Start Community Church, 309 N Eastern.

He said church members recently gathered to assemble 1,000 dinners for relief workers. He said they also have been helping with debris removal and aiding storm victims as they seek to recover items lost in the storm.

Grubbs said the monetary commitment takes the church's support efforts one important step further.
