The number of Pikepass customers with outdated transponder units has been reduced to about 25,000, Oklahoma Turnpike Authority members were told Friday.
The authority recently deactivated 92,000 of the old units, which are being replaced with windshield stickers, said Tim Stewart, the authority's deputy director and chief operating officer.
The remaining 25,000 will be deactivated in the weeks ahead, about a month after customers receive their fifth and final notices.
All should be deactivated by April, he said.
The Turnpike Authority began switching to the windshield sticker tags in March.
Stewart said few of the tardy customers complained.
“Many of them were waiting for the last minute,” he said.
The Turnpike Authority switched to windshield tags because the hard-case units are no longer being produced.
