NORMAN — College football has finally arrived.

Oklahoma hosts Louisiana-Monroe on Owen Field this evening to kick off both teams’ 2013 campaigns.

This is the first of three pregame blog posts you’ll get from Ryan Aber and I.

We’ll make this a weekly pregame series. First, we’ll each post a pressing question we hope to see answered in that day’s game.

Second, we’ll each pick a player who has something to prove, and finally, we’ll each make one bold prediction.

So without further ado, here are our pressing questions for today’s game:

RYAN: Can the front seven (or six or five) get pressure on Louisiana-Monroe quarterback Kolton Browning?

Most of the attention has been on Trevor Knight for this game but more important to the Sooners’ fortunes for this year is whether or not OU’s defense can get pressure on the quarterback and make things easier on the secondary. Defensive end Charles Tapper has drawn praise for his preseason play and he’ll be a big key to stopping the run and not allowing Browning all the time in the world to find a target downfield–or run for first downs.

JASON: How much of the new offense will Oklahoma coaches show in the season opener?

The Sooners are definitely changing their offense to some degree in 2013 with a more mobile quarterback in Trevor Knight. Sources who’ve watched preseason practices and scrimmages have described it as a Nevada-type Pistol offense with the read option playing a significant role. Will the Sooners show much of that in this game, or will they save some aspects of it for next week’s Big 12 opener against West Virginia, and late September’s showdown at Notre Dame? I expect Oklahoma coaches won’t hold much back this week, because they’re going to have to get Knight used to running the full show in a game situation.
