Will there be a letdown from Blake Bell and the Sooners against TCU?

NORMAN — Oklahoma will look to remain unbeaten Saturday night, when the Sooners host TCU on Owen Field.

This is the first of three pregame blogs from Ryan Aber and I. Here, we each ask a pressing question that we hope to see answered in Saturday’s game.

ABER: Will the Sooners get through without a letdown?
Before the season, this looked like the middle game of a brutal stretch that included a road game against Notre Dame, a home game against a TCU team that was supposed to have the conference’s best defense and a Red River Rivalry game against a Texas team that was supposed to be back. Well, TCU’s offense has been out of whack, their two best defensive players have been banged up and Texas is most certainly not back. Notre Dame was a great win for the program and this team and Texas is still big just because it’s Texas. So this seems a place where a letdown could happen. OU hasn’t had much problem with that during the Stoops era but it’s something to keep an eye on.

KERSEY: Can Blake Bell continue to avoid big mistakes against a good TCU defense?
Blake Bell certainly hasn’t been perfect throughout his two starts, but he’s avoided the occasional critical, ugly mistakes that you might expect from a new starting quarterback. I can’t recall even one near Bell interception in the Tulsa or Notre Dame wins. TCU’s secondary poses a tougher challenge, though, than either of those teams, so if he can take care of the football in this game, it would be really impressive.
