One woman died and two other people were injured Friday in a four-vehicle crash in LeFlore County, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported.

About 8:20 p.m., Misty VanDyke, 22, of Poteau, was driving east on U.S. 270 and a car was stopped in eastbound, waiting to turn left onto a county road.

VanDyke didn’t see the car and swerved to the left to avoid hitting it, troopers said. VanDyke’s vehicle crossed the center line and collided with a westbound vehicle driven by Robert Montgomery, 54, of Red Oak, troopers said.

Montgomery’s vehicle ran off the road and rolled twice. A passenger, Barbara Montgomery, 43, of Red Oak, died at the scene, troopers said.

After the collision with the Montgomery’s vehicle, Van Dyke’s car struck the vehicle waiting to turn and then was struck from behind by the fourth vehicle, troopers said.

Robert Montgomery was taken by helicopter to a Tulsa hospital where he was admitted in critical condition.

VanDyke was taken to a hospital in Fort Smith, Ark., where she was treated and released. No other injuries were reported.
