Coale added a couple borrowed volleyball players to help out, but things still seemed grim before Oklahoma began Big 12 play Jan. 2 against West Virginia.
The 3-0 conference start hasn't been easy; OU trailed at halftime in two of the three wins. But at TCU this week, two veteran leaders' double-doubles helped the Sooners pull out an important victory.
Senior forward Joanna McFarland scored 24 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, and junior guard Morgan Hook — OU's only still-healthy captain — scored 11 points to go with her 12 assists.
Junior guard Aaryn Ellenberg scored a game-high 26 points in the TCU win.
“Our second-half effort (was the difference),” Hook said after the game. “The first half was not Oklahoma basketball.
“It came down to four minutes left, we looked at each other and said, ‘We are not losing this game.' Three-and-0 is a great spot to be in in the Big 12.”
