Alex McMillen, Norman North

Class: Junior

Event: 50 freestyle

The story: McMillen took bronze in Class 6A’s ultra-competitive 50 freestyle with a time of 21.89. He was also fifth in the 100 freestyle and was part of the Timberwolves’ winning teams in the 200 and 400 freestyle relays.

James Dyer, Norman North

Class: Freshman

Event: 100 freestyle

The story: The youngster burst onto the scene with a runner-up finish in the 100 freestyle in 48.15. He took third in the 100 backstroke and helped Norman North to a pair of relay wins.

Swimmer of the Year

Justin Wu, Norman North

Class: Junior

Events: 100 butterfly, 200 IM

The story: Already an All-American swimmer, Wu won state in the 100 butterfly in 49.01 seconds and the 200 IM in 1:49.12, setting the state meet record in both. Also won gold as the anchor leg in two relays.

Gianluca Di Tano, Norman North

Class: Senior

Event: 100 backstroke, 200 freestyle

The story: The exchange student from Italy was a state champion in the 100 backstroke in 50.37 and was second in the 200 freestyle at 1:43.07. He also added two relay golds.

Conner St. John, Piedmont

Class: Junior

Event: 100 breaststroke

The story: The Class 5A champ in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 59.72 and the 200 IM at 1:55.83. Added one gold and one silver in relay competition.

Reid Hibbs, Southmoore

Class: Senior

Event: 500 freestyle

The story: Held off two tough competitors for gold in the Class 6A 500 freestyle, and added a fourth-place finish in the 200 IM.
