PLAYER OF THE YEAR

TAYLOR HAWKINS, CARL ALBERT

Position: Catcher; Class: Senior

The story: As a freshman, Hawkins was the starting catcher on a state championship team, and he finished his career out in the same fashion, blasting a home run in the state championship game to help give Carl Albert the title.

JACOB EVANS, BROKEN ARROW

Position: First baseman; Class: Senior

The story: Evans hit .430 with 5 home runs and 6 triples for the 6A runners-up. The OU signee was also a force on the mound, going 10-0 with a 1.94 ERA, 100 strikeouts and just nine walks in 72 innings.

COLT PICKENS, YUKON

Position: Second baseman; Class: Senior

The story: The switch hitter his .413 and drove in 37 runs while scoring 46 for the Class 6A semifinalists. The OU signee was strong defensively as well and occasionally pitched for the Millers.

ALEX POLSTON, CARL ALBERT

Position: Shortstop; Class: Senior

The story: Polston, an Oklahoma State signee, hit .457 with 5 home runs and 46 RBIs for the Class 5A champions. He also stole 37 bases and provided solid middle-infield defense and seemed to elevate his performance in big-game situations.

TY HENSLEY, EDMOND SANTA FE

Position: Third baseman; Class: Senior

The story: The Yankess first-round draft pick as a right-handed pitcher moves to the infield on this team to take the best available players. Hensley hit .447 with 10 home runs and 41 RBIs and stole 11 bases, to go along with his dazzling pitching performances, in helping the Wolves make the 6A semifinals.
