“It was really, really hard,” he said. “Cloud computing for most people is extremely confusing; they don’t know what it is and how it works. Our challenge was how do we figure out something as unknown as that in a simple way that people can understand.”
Dowling, who graduated from Westmoore in 2002, earned a bachelor’s degree in graphic design from the University of Oklahoma. He’s working on a master’s in math communications.
“I want to try and utilize technology to give people experiences they’ve never had before,” he said.
Ringing the closing bell at the New York Stock Exchange on Jan. 27 was a surreal experience, Dowling said.
The rigors of the contest have convinced him that creativity can play an important role in business, he said.
“You can go to school and be creative and solve problems that major corporations have that they were having trouble solving themselves,” he said. “I think it’s a pretty big message that you don’t have to be in engineering or anything like that, you can be creative.”
