Oklahomans in Major League Baseball: Tyler Lyons, Adam LaRoche among those off to strong starts

A look at how the Oklahomans playing in Major League Baseball are doing this season.

P Josh Johnson (Jenks): The 29-year-old right-hander was obtained in a trade with Miami. Johnson (0-1, 6.86 ERA in four starts) is on a rehab assignment. In his ninth major league season, Johnson is 56-38 with a career 3.23 ERA.

WASHINGTON

1B Adam LaRoche (Seminole State): A 33-year-old veteran, LaRoche signed a two-year $24 million deal after slamming 33 homers with 100 RBIs last season for the Nationals. LaRoche once again is providing power (seven homers, 21 RBIs) out of the cleanup spot.

Other notable players with Oklahoma ties

Additional players with Oklahoma ties. Some are attempting to return to the majors and some are high profile prospects at various levels in the minors.

P Chase Anderson (OU), Arizona: After a solid season last year in Double-A (5-4, 2.86 ERA in 104 IP, 97 Ks), Anderson is 3-5 with a 5.47 ERA at Triple-A Reno.

P Clayton Blackburn (Edmond Santa Fe), SF: Was a 16th round pick but had a standout season in Class A (8-4, 2.54 ERA) last year to move onto Giants top 10 prospects list. He's 2-2 with a 4.39 ERA and 48 strikeouts in 41 IP in high Class A San Jose.

P Archie Bradley (Broken Arrow), Arizona: The 2011 first round pick — No. 7 overall — is off to a sizzling start, earning a quick promotion to Double-A Mobile. Bradley is 6-0 with a 0.99 ERA and 73 strikeouts in 55 IP.

OF Corey Brown (OSU), Washington: Slammed 25 HRs in Triple-A last season and earned a late-season call-up. Brown is hitting .261 with four homers and 13 RBIs at Triple-A Syracuse.

P Dylan Bundy (Owasso), Baltimore: Baseball's top pitching prospect dominated in the minors last year. There was speculation he might join the Orioles rotation late this season but was shut down last month because of elbow pain. Bundy still hasn't resumed throwing.

3B Josh Fields (Stillwater, OSU), Philadelphia: The former first-round pick compiled a solid season (. 322, 13 HRs, 71 RBIs) with the Dodgers' Triple-A team. He's hitting well (. 315, 3 HRs, 15 RBIs) with the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs but is blocked by Michael Young.

P Justin Friend (OSU), Philadelphia: 26-year-old right-hander has advanced to Triple-A but is 2-2 with a 6.98 ERA in a relief role.

P Michael Fulmer (Deer Creek), New York Mets: First-round 2011 pick got off to solid start (7-6, 2.74 in 108 IP) last year in his first full pro season. Fulmer underwent minor knee surgery during spring training and has made only one start.

3B Matt Hague (OSU), Pittsburgh: Hit .229 in 70 at bats in his major league debut a year ago; Hague is off to a solid start (. 293, 3 HRs, 26 RBIs) for Triple-A Indianapolis.

P Andrew Heaney (Putnam City, OSU), Miami: Ninth overall pick in 2012 received a $2.6 million signing bonus. An oblique injury sidelined him for two months but Heaney last week made his 2013 debut with high Class A Jupiter.

P Ty Hensley (Edmond Santa Fe), New York Yankees: A late first-round pick in 2012, Hensley received a $1.1 million signing bonus. Hensley underwent hip surgery this spring. He hopes to return to Class A Charleston in late July or August.

P Matt Hoffman (Owasso), Detroit: Selected in the 26th round six years ago, the 24-year-old left-hander is 1-1 with a 1.26 ERA in a relief role at Triple-A Toledo.

C Jason Jaramillo (OSU), Houston: Playing for the RedHawks, the 30-year-old veteran is hitting .138 with seven RBIs. He's closing in on 2,000 career minor league at bats. He hit .235 in 336 at bats over three seasons with the Pittsburgh Pirates earlier in his career.

P Austin Kirk (Owasso), Cubs: Third-round pick in 2009 pitched well (9-3, 3.12 overall) last season. At high class A Daytona Kirk is 5-2 with a 5.02 ERA.

P Stephen Kohlscheen (Norman North), Seattle: A 45th round pick three years ago out of Auburn, Kohlscheen is 2-1 with a 1.88 ERA and one save in a relief role at Double-A Jackson.

P Daniel McCutchen (OU), Baltimore: Advanced to Triple-A in the Pirates system last year. McCutchen is eligible to return on May 29 at Triple-A Norfolk after being suspended for testing positive for a banned substance.

C Tyler Ogle (OU), LA Dodgers: Ninth-round pick in 2011 is advancing through system. Ogle, 22, hit .340 with nine HRs in his first full pro season a year ago. Ogle is hitting .287 with six homers, 24 RBIs for Class A Great Lakes.

P Andy Oliver (OSU), Pittsburgh: There was talk the 25-year-old lefty might be moved to the bullpen but he's 3-2 with a 2.87 ERA in 10 starts with Triple-A Indianapolis. He pitched a little for Detroit but hasn't pitched in the majors in two years.

P David Purcey (OU), White Sox: Former first round draft pick, Purcey was 15-18 in 200 major league innings but spent last season with the Phillies Triple-A team. Purcey, 30, is trying to revive his career with a new organization.

P Red Patterson (Southwestern), LA Dodgers: A 16th round pick, Patterson pitched well last year in Double-A (7-1, 3.07 ERA) but is off to a slow start (2-1, 5.27 ERA) at Triple-A Albuquerque.

C J.T. Realmuto (Carl Albert), Miami: The Marlins' No. 12 prospect, a former third-round pick, collected 46 RBIs last year in high Class A. Realmuto is hitting .210 with two homers as the starting catcher at Double-A Jacksonville.

P Scott Richmond (OSU), Texas: The 33-year-old right-hander signed with the Rangers two weeks ago. Richmond was 9-14 with 5.27 ERA in 36 career appearances with Toronto. Richmond is 1-0 in two starts with Triple-A Round Rock.

P Casey Sadler, (Ripley, Western), Pittsburgh: Continues to climb through the Pirates' system. Sadler is 5-3 with 2.81 ERA in 10 starts at Double-A Altoona.

P Duke vonSchaman (Edmond Santa Fe), LA Dodgers: A 15th round pick out of Texas Tech three years ago, vonSchaman is 6-1 with a 3.99 ERA at high Class A Rancho Cucamonga.

C Jackson Williams (OU), San Francisco: Selected in the first round six years ago, the 43rd overall pick, Williams is hitting .176 with three homers and eight RBIs at Triple-A Fresno after batting .247 with 11 homers last year in Triple-A.
