Oklahoma's Gabe Ikard, Aaron Colvin make watch lists

by Ryan Aber Published: July 11, 2013

Oklahoma’s Gabe Ikard and Aaron Colvin were already named to watch lists for other awards earlier in the week.

Thursday, each was named to another list–Ikard for the Outland Trophy and Colvin for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy.

Ikard, the Sooners’ starting center, was one of 10 Big 12 players on the initial watch list for the Outland, given to the nation’s top interior lineman by the Football Writers Association of America.

Oklahoma State’s Calvin Barnett was also named to the list.

Ikard was also named to the watch list for the Rimington Trophy, given to the top center in college football.

Colvin, a cornerback, is one of 12 Big players on the list for the Nagurski trophy, given annually to the nation’s top defensive player by the FWAA and the Charlotte Touchdown Club.

Oklahoma State has three on the list–Barnett, linebacker Shaun Lewis and defensive back Justin Gilbert.

Colvin was also on the list for the Bednarik Award.

Jammal Brown in 2004 was the last Oklahoma player to win the Outland Trophy. Other Sooners who won the award were Greg Roberts (1978), Lee Roy Selmon (1975), J.D. Roberts (1953) and Jim Weatherall (1951).

Oklahoma has had two Bronko Nagurski winners–Roy Williams in 2001 and Derrick Strait in 2003.
