NORMAN — Oklahoma juniors Lauren Chamberlain and Shelby Pendley were among 50 softball players nationally who were named Wednesday to the 2014 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Award watch list.
Former OU pitcher Keilani Ricketts won the award — given by the National Governing Body for softball in the United States — in 2012 and 2013.
Chamberlain and Pendley each played vital roles on the Sooners’ 2013 national championship team. Chamberlain is a two-time first-team All-American and has belted 60 home runs so far in two seasons with Oklahoma.
Pendley played her freshman season at Arizona and transferred to OU last year, when she started all 61 games and batted .357 with 22 home runs and 73 RBIs.
The Sooners open the 2013 season Feb. 7 in the Easton Tournament in Fullerton, Calif., against Kentucky.
