Oklahoma's mental illness centers face cuts in their care

Maddy Boehrer had her first struggle with mental illness when she was 9 years old.

She was put in a psychiatric hospital for nearly three months. When it was over, her parents had a $54,000 hospital bill.

"We did all the right things. We both worked. We paid our health insurance premiums every month. And still, we couldn’t afford her care,” said Susan Boehrer, who is director of the Oklahoma Federation of Families for Youth and Children’s Mental Health.
