NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — University of Oklahoma freshman Sheldon Neuse has been named Big 12 baseball's Freshman of the year and to the All-Big 12 first team with Sooner teammate Mac James.

Neuse was selected in a vote of Big 12 coaches and announced as the winner of the award on Tuesday.

Neuse played primarily at third base — but also appeared at shortstop and made eight relief appearances. He hit .290 with 40 runs batted in and was 1-0 as a pitcher with a 2.70 earned run average.

James was named to the all-conference first-team as a utility player after starting games at catcher, first base, left field and designated hitter and hitting .348 with 39 RBIs.
