INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — You don't have to go to Sochi for the Winter Olympics to see a gold medal: There's one now on display in Indianapolis.

The Children's Museum of Indianapolis says a gold medal that Olympic diver Greg Louganis gave to Ryan White's mother after White's death is on loan and has been added to a display of his bedroom.

Louganis won the medal at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul. Louganis said White's strength inspired him to overcome a concussion and sweep the 3-meter and 10-meter diving events.

Louganis befriended Ryan White while the diver was competing in the Pan American Games in Indianapolis in 1987. White had become the face of the AIDS epidemic after suing his Howard County school district for the right to attend classes.
