LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — A University of Nebraska Medical Center doctor will explain how a heart-lung machine works at an Omaha event.
David Holt, program director for clinical perfusion at UNMC, will discuss the mystery, science and art of the heart-lung machine May 7.
The event will be held at 7 p.m. at the Slowdown, 729 N. 14th St.
Heart-lung machines keep blood and oxygen circulating throughout the body during surgery. Holt will discuss how the mechanical technology supporting life in many hospital cardiac procedures was created and evolved from trial and error.
The event is one several face-to-face conversation with a scientist hosted by UNMC. The Science Cafe events are held at pubs and coffeehouses. A scientist gives a brief presentation followed by a question and answer period.
