— An 8-year-old girl has died as the result of injuries suffered in a three-vehicle wreck Monday afternoon on State Highway 9. Five others were injured in the crash, Norman police said.

Lt. Brent Barbour identified the dead girl as Cadence Gordon, a passenger in a Ford Explorer. Also in the Explorer were Christy Amos, 29, and Christina Francis, 33. Francis and Amos are hospitalized at the OU Medical Center, Barbour said.

Cadence died at the OU Medical Center after being flown there by medical helicopter shortly after the 3 p.m. collision.

Police said a sport utility vehicle driven by Kimberly Wenthold, 29, of Slaughterville, was traveling east on the highway near 168th Avenue SE when it crossed the centerline, colliding with the Explorer and a pickup.

Wenthold was taken into police custody on suspicion of driving under the influence, Barbour said. She was booked into the Cleveland County jail on complaints of first-degree manslaughter and driving under the influence.

Occupants of the pickup were Christopher Mullendore, 43, Susan Mullendore, 43, and Leanna Mullendore, 13, all of Harrah. They were treated at Norman Regional Hospital for injuries and later released.

SH 9 was closed for about five hours Monday while the scene was investigated and the roadway cleared. has disabled the comments for this article.
