One escapee caught, one still missing from Okfuskee County jail

Authorities captured one man who escaped Monday night from the Okfuskee County jail. Another escapee is still at large and considered to be armed and dangerous.

OKEMAH — Okfuskee County sheriff's deputies found one of two men who escaped from the county jail Monday night.

Gerald Adams, 40, and Keith Dewayne Smith Sr., 45, were reported missing about 9:30 p.m. Monday from the jail.

Adams was caught about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday behind an Okemah bank, a jail official said.

Smith was still at large at 5 p.m., the official said. He is 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs 180 pounds. He has red hair that has been shaved and hazel eyes.

Officials said Smith was last seen in eastern Okemah city limits. Authorities said he is armed and dangerous.

Anyone with information about his whereabouts can call 911, the Okfuskee County sheriff at (918) 623-1122 or the Oklahoma Highway Patrol at (866) 647-8477.

Adams was booked into the jail on complaints of assault and battery and burglary. Smith was booked on complaints of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, attempting to elude, reckless driving and driving without a valid license.
