One man is dead in a wreck in Mayes County, Oklahoma

A Mannford man died Thursday in a Mayes County crash on the Will Rogers Turnpike, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported.

Man dies in crash

— A Mannford man died Thursday in a Mayes County crash on the Will Rogers Turnpike, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported. Steve Shields, 56, was dead at the scene from massive injuries about 4:45 a.m. about 8 miles northeast of Claremore, the patrol reported. Shields was driving a van west when he hit the rear of a tractor-trailer driven by Kazimrz L. Nienaltowski, 65, of Ridgewood, N.Y., who was not injured. Nienaltowski was wearing his seat belt, but Shields wasn't, the patrol reported.
