One Oklahoma community has had 8 days at or below freezing this fall after six days this summer at or above 100 degrees

Communities across northern and western Oklahoma made appearances this morning in the Oklahoma Mesonet’s coolest minimum temperatures. Nowata had the lowest with 28.3 degrees at 7:40 a.m. But also on the list was Lake Carl Blackwell at 29.8, Alva at 30.0, Seiling at 30.5 and Buffalo at 31.6.

Although the low today at Kenton, in the far western Oklahoma Panhandle, has been 33 degrees, they have had eight days this fall with lows at or below freezing. Just FYI, they had six days this summer with highs at or above 100 degrees.  

In other weather news:

The National Weather Service, Norman Forecast Office discussion shows that, “A mid -level disturbance moving across the Four Corners Region this afternoon and the Southern Rockies tonight will result in increased
cloud cover throughout the afternoon and overnight. Late tonight through early Saturday morning,  isolated showers will be possible, primarily across western Oklahoma and western, north Texas.”

In looking ahead, “Showers and a few thunderstorms will be possible on Saturday. The
best chances will be across southwestern and southern Oklahoma and across northern Texas.

“No severe weather is expected at this time.

“Thunderstorm chances will return early next week through Wednesday as a strong storm system approaches and moves through the region. Heavy rainfall and a few stronger thunderstorms appear possible with the best chances late Tuesday through Wednesday.”

And the Oklahoma City forecast from the National Weather Service, Norman is:

This Afternoon Mostly sunny, with a high near 63. South southeast wind around 8 mph.

Tonight A 20 percent chance of showers after 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 49. South wind 5 to 7 mph.

Saturday A chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 66. South southwest wind 5 to 9 mph becoming light and variable in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Saturday Night A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 44. Calm wind becoming north northeast around 5 mph after midnight.

Sunday Sunny, with a high near 67. Calm wind becoming east northeast around 6 mph.

Sunday Night Mostly clear, with a low around 50.

Monday A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 72.

Monday Night A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 59.

Tuesday A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Cloudy, with a high near 72.

Tuesday Night A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 55.

Wednesday A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 63.

Wednesday Night A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 43.

Thursday A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 61.
