One woman died and another was seriously injured Thursday in a knife attack outside a south Oklahoma City motel.
Police arrested Jeffrey S. Tate, 20, on complaints of murder and assault with a deadly weapon after detaining him near the scene with blood on his hands.
The victims names were not released because police had not yet notified their relatives.
The attack happened about 5:50 a.m. at the Quality Inn Southwest, 7800 C.A. Henderson Blvd., police Master Sgt. Gary Knight said.
The two women were staying at the motel when they found someone trying to steal their car and were attacked, Knight said.
One of the women was declared dead at the scene and the other was taken to OU Medical Center where she was in serious condition Thursday afternoon, Knight said.
Tate was detained by police nearby and was arrested after being interviewed by homicide detectives. He was being held without bail at the Oklahoma County jail.
